GENERAL INFORMATION AND SHORT PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Gilbert Mora has been teaching piano, composition, and music history for over 30 years teaching in various music instituions including part time for over 27 years at the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music (Queens Branch). The last 16 years he has also been Music Teacher and Orchestra Director at The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates. His musical studies began with piano lessons at age 11 and graduated from The High School of Music and Art while attending the Julliard Prep School. He is a graduate of The Hart College of Music and CUNY with degrees in Composition. He has studied composition with noted composers including Grammy and Oscar winner, John Corigliano. He continues his graduate studies at CUNY in Music History. Several of his peices have won National Composition Competitions: "La Pieta" for string orchestra, "The Toy Box" for piano and "In Memorium" string quartet. His pop song "By You" (which was written for his wife, Elise when he proposed to her).
